Wix accessibility fixes: a practical checklist
How to fix alt text, contrast, labels, headings and page language on a Wix site.
Before you start
Work through the fixes in the order below. They are the issues automated scans find most often on small-business sites and the ones that most often block visitors who use screen readers, keyboards or zoom.
1. Turn on the Accessibility Wizard
In the Wix editor, open Settings → Accessibility Wizard and run it. It flags many of the issues below. Treat it as a starting point, not a final check.
2. Alt text
Click an image → Settings → “What's in the image? Tell Google”. That text becomes the alt text. For galleries, set it per image under Manage Media.
3. Contrast
Change colours in Site Design → Colors or per element in its Design panel. Text over photos usually needs a darker overlay on the strip behind it.
4. Form labels
For each field: Settings → Field title. Keep titles visible rather than placeholder-only.
5. Headings and reading order
Use the Text Theme menu to set Heading 1 → 2 → 3 in order. Under Settings → Accessibility, use “Reading order” tools (where available) so screen readers follow the visual order.
6. Page language
Settings → Language & Region: set the correct site language.
