Website accessibility for contractors and home-service businesses
Accessibility fixes for HVAC, plumbing, roofing, cleaning and other home-service websites: quote forms, click-to-call, photo galleries and booking widgets.
Home-service websites have one job: get a visitor to call or request a quote. The same features that drive those leads (quote forms, click-to-call buttons, before-and-after galleries, online booking) are where accessibility problems usually sit.
1. Quote and contact forms
Give every field a visible label ("Your address", "What do you need help with?"). Placeholder-only fields disappear as people type. Make error messages specific: "Enter a phone number with 10 digits" rather than a red border.
<label for="svc">What do you need help with?</label> <select id="svc" name="service">...</select>
2. Click-to-call buttons
Phone icons in headers often have no text, so screen readers announce "link" with no destination. Include the number as text or add a name:
<a href="tel:+19185550100" aria-label="Call us at 918-555-0100">☎</a>
3. Before-and-after galleries
Describe what changed: "Kitchen ceiling after water-damage repair, new drywall and paint". Sliders that compare two photos by dragging need a button or keyboard alternative (WCAG 2.2, 2.5.7).
4. Service-area maps
An embedded map is hard to use without sight or a mouse. List the towns or ZIP codes you serve as text on the page as well.
5. Booking widgets and chat pop-ups
Third-party schedulers and chat bubbles can cover the focused element or trap keyboard users. Test them with the Tab key. If one is hard to use, offer a phone or email option next to it and mention it in your accessibility statement.
6. Reviews and badges
Star ratings shown only as images need text ("Rated 4.8 out of 5 from 120 reviews"). Badge logos (BBB, licensing) need alt text naming the badge.
